Some of you may have heard about the Miss Universe controversy surrounding Jenna Talackova, a contestant who was denied permission to compete due to the fact that she was born, well… a he. Well, that decision has been reversed, but that’s somewhat beside the point, which is this: had I not been told that she was formerly “Walter”, I would never have guessed.
I’ve seen transgender folks before, but never like this. Apparently hormone therapies and sex-change operations are a lot more effective these days (that and I understand that this one got started younger than most), because the voice is really the only thing that speaks “transmogrified man” to me.
This person’s story is, of course, being glorified in the media at this point. That’s what happens in a culture which does not hold Jesus Christ as Lord, but rather places one’s own passions and whims in the place of supreme importance.
But there’s one more thing we should be prompted to think of by this type of ordeal. We need to be praying for Mr./Ms. Talackova, because as hard as it might be for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, how much harder do you think it would be for someone who has altered their body in such a drastic and radical way to recognize their rebellion agains the Creator and repent? May God have mercy and bring these poor confused people unto Himself, as He did with us poor confused sinners as well.
