Great conversation with my brother this evening too. Sometimes I wish we would record those, because I usually walk away feeling like we’ve solved all of the world’s problems – but the solutions etc. usually fade from my mind too quickly to put to paper. …Alas.
In any case, I do remember one snippet where he made a very good observation about the realities of couples who shack up, enjoy all of the conjugal relations that a Christian worldview maintains should be reserved for marriage, then not long down the line come to a point where the woman wants to get married and the man doesn’t see the point.
Seth phrased it like this:
“In a situation like that, from a man’s perspective, a woman asking you if it’s time to get married is like a CEO who’s already paying you a salary of millions for doing nothing saying ‘when would you like to come to work?’”
Thus: men, love your women enough to marry her first. Women, love your men enough to say no until they do that thing Beyoncé talked about. And for goodness sake, wait until somebody shows up to work before you write those checks.
